JZN NFL Predictions vs. Spread: San Francisco 49ers at Washington Redskins (Week 9, 2011-12)

The San Francisco 49ers will try to improve to 7-1 when they play a Washington Redskins team that has been decimated by injuries. Neither team has a great offense. Could the Redskins get enough from their defense to pull off the upset?

The early spread on this game is 49ers (-3). Here are some of the key aspects of the game and what to watch out for in pick ’em leagues. All lines from Y! Sports and injury reports from CBS Sports as of November 3, 2011. Always update yourselves with injury lines because they’ll change throughout the week. Please note that ATS means “Against the spread.”

*MY* Current Personal Picks Record (Straights Only)

Washington Redskins 4-3

Key Injuries
DT Ray McDonald, LB London Fletcher, T Trent Williams, TE Chris Cooley (IR), RB Tim Hightower (IR), WR Santana Moss (Out), RB Tashard Choice (Out), TE Fred Davis, CB Phillip Buchanon,

Keys to the Game
  • Which offense is capable of making the big scoring play?
  • The Redskins injuries and quarterback situation.
  • Can the Redskins contain Frank Gore?
  • Can the Redskins avoid turnovers?
  • Can the Redskins depleted offensive line contain the 49ers’ pass rush?

Summary
The Redskins have lost three consecutive games. They have injuries to nearly every significant player on their offense. London Fletcher, their defensive captain, is also banged up. The 49ers have already won road games against the Philadelphia Eagles, Cincinnati Bengals and Detroit Lions.

The only reason I think this may be close is because the Redskins' defense is good enough to hold the 49ers to fewer than 20 points. The problem is that the Redskins’ offense was shutout by the Buffalo Bills. They haven’t looked good against three of the NFL’s softer defenses (Eagles, Carolina Panthers and Bills).

Redskins should be due for an offensive touchdown. That’s about it for them though. And here’s a trend to consider: The 49ers are 6-0-1 ATS.

Final Predictions:
Against the Spread: San Francisco 49ers (-3)
Straight: San Francisco 49ers 17, Washington Redskins 10
