JZN NFL Predictions vs. Spread: Oakland Raiders at San Diego Chargers (Week 10, 2011-12)

The early spread on this game is Chargers (-7). Here are some of the key aspects of the game and what to watch out for in pick ’em leagues. All lines from Y! Sports and injury reports from CBS Sports as of November 3, 2011. Always update yourselves with injury lines because they’ll change throughout the week. Please note that ATS means “Against the spread.”

*MY* Current Personal Picks Record (Straights Only)
San Diego Chargers 8-0
Oakland Raiders 4-4

Key Injuries
LB Rolando McClain, RB Darren McFadden (Out), QB Jason Campbell (Out), LB Shaun Phillips, Kris Dielman (Out), WR Malcom Floyd (Out), DE Luis Castillo (Out)

Keys to the Game
  • Can the Raiders bounce back after consecutive divisional losses?
  • Will Philip Rivers and the Chargers avoid turnovers?
  • Ryan Mathews and Michael Tolbert should both be healthy
  • How can the Raiders contain Antonio Gates?
  • Will the Chargers recover after three consecutive losses?
  • Do the Raiders have enough offensive firepower?
Summary
The Raiders have lost consecutive home games to the Kansas City Chiefs and Denver Broncos. Carson Palmer has thrown six interceptions in those games. The Chargers will be hosting this game and they’re more talented than the Chiefs or Broncos. Darren McFadden will also be inactive.

The Chargers are 2-6 ATS. The Raiders are 3-0 ATS in away games. That trend suggests that I should take the Raiders. However, injuries have really damned them in their past two games. I’ll reluctantly go with the Chargers by double digits.

Final Predictions:
Against the Spread: San Diego Chargers (-7)
Straight: San Diego Chargers 28, Oakland Raiders 17
