JZN NFL Predictions vs. Spread: Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Week 13, 2011-12)

The early spread on this game is Buccaneers (-3). Here are some of the key aspects of the game and what to watch out for in pick ’em leagues. All lines from Y! Sports and injury reports from CBS Sports as of November 30, 2011. Always update yourselves with injury lines because they’ll change throughout the week. Please note that ATS means “Against the spread.”

*My* Current Personal Picks Record (Straights Picks Only)
Carolina Panthers 9-2
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 7-4

Key Injuries
LB Omar Gaither, LB Jason Phillips, DL Brian Price, DL Michael Bennett, DL Gerald McCoy

Keys to the Game
  • Can the Buccaneers contain Cam Newton?
  • Can the Panthers contain LeGarette Blount?
  • How do the Panthers contain Albert Haynesworth? Adrian Clayborn?
  • The Buccaneers have lost five consecutive games. Will they lack motivation?
  • The Buccaneers’ special teams vs. the Panthers’ special teams
  • Turnovers

Cam Newton will face the Buccaneers’ defense for the time in his career. The Buccaneers have had a down season as Freeman doesn’t appear to have that fourth quarter magic that he did in his first couple of seasons. However, they’re still a pesky team that gives teams problems. Just look at the Green Bay Packers two weeks ago.

LeGarrette Blount has been running over teams these past couple of weeks. I don’t see anything changing against the NFL’s 28th-ranked run defense. Josh Freeman should also have some success against a poor passing defense.

The Buccaneers are about ready to end that losing streak. The Panthers haven’t played well on the road with the exception to last week in their win against the Indianapolis Colts. Let’s not forget that the Colts are 0-11.

Final Predictions:
Against the Spread: Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-3)
Straight: Tampa Bay Buccaneers 27, Carolina Panthers 17
