JZN NFL Predictions vs. Spread: Cincinnati Bengals at Seattle Seahawks (Week 8, 2011-12)

The Seattle Seahawks will play their second consecutive AFC North contestant when they face the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 8. The Bengals have a healthier roster, are coming off the bye week, and A.J. Green may be the best player on the field. However, Seattle has always been a difficult place to play. Cedric Benson is also suspended.

The early spread on this game is Bengals (-1.5). Here are some of the key aspects of the game and what to watch out for in pick ’em leagues. All lines from Y! Sports and injury reports from CBS Sports as of October 28, 2011. Always update yourselves with injury lines because they’ll change throughout the week.

***MY*** Current Personal Picks Record (Straights Only)
Seattle Seahawks 5-1
Cincinnati Bengals 3-3

Key Injuries
QB Tarvaris Jackson, RB Marshawn Lynch, WR Deon Butler, T Jarriel King, CB Nate Clements, CB Kelly Jennings, LB Rey Maualuga, RB Cedric Benson (Suspension)

Keys to the Game
  • Cedric Benson will serve his suspension
  • Can the Seahawks avoid turnovers?
  • The Bengals have had two weeks of rest and preparation
  • Can the Seahawks maintain the time-of-possession?
  • How well will Andrew Dalton handle the hostile environment in Seattle?
  • How much will injuries hurt the Seahawks?
  • The Bengals have the NFL’s No. 2 Defense. They’re top five in stopping the run and pass.
  • Can the Seahawks contain A.J. Green?

The Bengals are coming off a bye week while the Seahawks have an injury list that features over a dozen players. They could be without their starting quarterback (Tarvaris Jackson) and their starting running back (Marshawn Lynch) for this matchup. The Bengals will also be without Cedric Benson as he serves his suspension.

There are some interesting trends with ATS records. The Bengals are 5-1 ATS and 3-0 on the road ATS. The Seahawks are 3-2-1 ATS and 2-0 at home ATS.

Something must give. Since the Bengals are playing in a hostile road environment with a rookie quarterback and they’re without their running back, I’m going with the Seahawks in another low-scoring contest. The Seahawks didn’t score a touchdown in Week 7. Therefore, they’ll be due for at least one touchdown this week.

Final Predictions:
Against the Spread: Seattle Seahawks (+1.5)
Straight: - Seattle Seahawks 14, Cincinnati Bengals 10
