JZN NFL Predictions vs. Spread: Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Redskins (Week 6, 2011-12)

Michael Vick faces the Washington Redskins less than one year after his historical performance on Monday Night Football. The Redskins could get a major boost in this division with another victory. Have they come alive under Mike Shanahan?

The early spread on this game is Eagles (-1). Here are some of the key aspects of the game and what to watch out for when betting. All lines from Y! Sports and Injury Reports from CBS Sports as of October 11, 2011. Always update yourselves with injury lines because they’ll change throughout the week.

Current Personal Picks Record (Straights Only)
Washington Redskins 2-2
Philadelphia Eagles 1-4

Key Injuries
DE Trent Cole, OT Jason Peters

Keys to the Game
  • The Redskins have had two weeks to prepare
  • Can the Redskins keep Michael Vick in the pocket?
  • Tim Hightower due for a big game against the Eagles’ run defense?
  • Can the Eagles contain the Redskins’ pass rush?
  • Chris Cooley and Fred Davis; can the Eagles linebackers’ contain them?
  • Will the Eagles eliminate turnovers? Can the Redskins keep creating them?
My base for this pick is admittedly soft: I just can’t see the Philadelphia Eagles falling to 1-5.

I understand that the defense is awful. I understand that Michael Vick is laughing to the bank after they gave him $100 million for one good season. I understand that the Redskins have had two weeks to rest and prepare. I understand that the offensive line is suspect. I understand that this team has no chemistry. I don’t understand why they keep playing Nnamdi Asomugha in zone coverage (Uh, man-to-man perhaps)?

I’m still not sold on the Redskins being more than a .500, 9-7 team. And .500 teams would be vulnerable in divisional games like this. Home-field advantage didn’t mean anything in this series last year.

But I’m 1-4 with picking games involving the Eagles. Maybe they really are this bad and Andy Reid really can’t grasp control of this sinking ship. I’m still putting some faith in Reid to turn them around into a 9-7, 10-6 team.

Final Predictions:
Against the Spread: Philadelphia Eagles (-1)
Straight: Philadelphia Eagles 23, Washington Redskins 20
