JZN NFL Predictions vs. Spread (2011): Washington Redskins at Buffalo Bills (Week 8, 2011-12)

The Buffalo Bills are coming off a difficult loss to the New York Giants while the Washington Redskins have lost two consecutive games. Both teams need a victory to restore their confidence. Why this could be one of the season’s biggest blowouts.

The early spread on this game is Bills (-6). Here are some of the key aspects of the game and what to watch out for in pick ’em leagues. All lines from Y! Sports and injury reports from CBS Sports as of October 26, 2011. Always update yourselves with injury lines because they’ll change throughout the week.

Current Personal Picks Record (Straights Only)
Washington Redskins 3-3
Buffalo Bills 1-5

Key Injuries
QB Rex Grossman, LB London Fletcher, TE Chris Cooley (IR), WR Santana Moss (Out), RB Tim Hightower (Out), WR Donte’ Stallworth, T Trent Williams, S Oshiomogha Atogwe, CB Byron Westbrook, OL Demetrius Bell (Doubtful), LB Chris Kelsay, NT Kyle Williams (Out), LB Shawne Merriman (IR), T Chris Hairston (Out), WR Donald Jones (Out)

Keys to the Game
  • Will London Fletcher play?
  • Can the Redskins survive all the injuries?
  • Will the Bills continue to create turnovers?
  • How will the Redskins create enough offense?
  • Can the Redskins contain Fred Jackson and the Bills’ run offense?
  • The Bills have had two weeks of preparation and rest.
  • The Bills are undefeated at home. The Redskins only road win occurred in St. Louis. Barely.

After a 3-1 start, the Redskins are unraveling. The Redskins are 3-3 and have been hit with a plethora of injuries to key skill-position players. Chris Cooley and Tim Hightower are done for the season. Santana Moss is out for up to two months with a hand injury. The offensive line could be without two of their main starters as Trent Williams is questionable and Kory Lichtensteiger is out for the season with torn knee ligaments. Mike Shanahan has already started his annual “Quarterback carousel” as John Beck replaced Rex Grossman in Week 7.

Those are just a few of their problems. The Bills are undefeated at home and they haven’t lost a game by more than three points. The Redskins haven’t played well on the road. The Bills have the NFL’s fourth-best run offense while the Redskins are allowing 4.6 yards per carry. They’ve also allowed eight runs of 20+ yards. One can't forget that they must respect Ryan Fitzpatrick.

And that’s with London Fletcher. That defense could completely fall apart if their leader has to miss any time.

I would be stunned if the Redskins won. Bills will win even if Fletcher plays. This could be a bloodbath if he doesn’t play. Keep an eye on him as gametime approaches.

Final Predictions:
Against the Spread: Buffalo Bills (-6)
Straight: Buffalo Bills 38, Washington Redskins 17
